Carol Jewel HeinBALTIMORE: Carol Jewel Hein, age 87, passed away of natural causes in Ohio State University Hospital, Columbus, Ohio on February 23, 2017. She was born on May 1, 1929 in Cleveland, Ohio and was most recently residing in Baltimore, Ohio. Her daughter, Claudia Price who lives in Yachats, Oregon, and son, David Liston who lives in Elmira, NY, immediately survive her. She is predeceased by son, Brad, who passed away suddenly in November of 2015 in Columbus, Ohio. Friends and family knew her as 'Jewel' and she was born one of four sisters. She and her sisters, Anne Marie, Duave and Sidney, were born to Theodore and Olive Hein in Cleveland, Ohio. Her surviving sister is Duave Goss who currently resides in Pinehurst, North Carolina with her husband, Gary.Jewel was married to and divorced from David M. Liston, who is deceased, and they had 3 children: Claudia, Brad and David. The family resided, for the most part, in Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio. Jewel was also blessed with many wonderful grandchildren and great grandchildren. They are: Brad's son, Denver Liston, his wife Beth and their 2 children, Madeline and Adam from Dublin, Ohio; Claudia's son, Geoffrey Price, his wife Valerie and their 4 children, David, Teylor, Michael and Haylee from Marengo, Ohio; Claudia's son, Christopher Price, his wife Cassie and their 3 children, Erin, Abbie and Ethan; David's daughter, Stephanie Liston from Worthington, Ohio; and David's daughter, Jennifer Otterbein, her husband Kyle and their daughter, Charlotte from Columbus, Ohio.Jewel is fondly remembered by a surviving extended family that consists of many nieces and nephews, as well as grandnieces & grandnephews most of whom reside in and around Ohio. Their lasting memories include great times at family reunions, joint camping trips and lots of snow sports & Easter egg hunts on the family's property in Strongsville, Ohio. Annual trips to East Harbor and Cedar Point Amusement park were all part of the fun, as well. After Jewel's family moved to Columbus, Ohio, Jewel returned to school at Ohio State University and took classes in anthropology, sociology and other social science courses. She was active in the greater Columbus community serving as President of the Columbus chapter of NOW and as a deputy for the Board of Elections in Baltimore, Ohio. After her divorce, Jewel returned to the work force and became well known for her talented skills as a kitchen and remodeling designer and contractor. She operated a custom cabinet shop during the early 1980's and passed her business down to her daughter, Claudia, who continued to operate it for a few years. Jewel's family would like to express their sincere thanks to neighbors & friends as well as medical support services that helped to make her retired years more comfortable and easier to enjoy. Her family is most appreciative and will fondly remember all of you always.Friends and family are invited to a memorial picnic and gathering for Jewel (Jewel loved picnics!) on Mother's Day, May 14th, 2017, at the home of grandson, Geoffrey Price in Marengo, Ohio.
