Blaine William Van SickleMarshall Blaine William Van Sickle, age 77, of Marshall died unexpectedly at his home Saturday morning, January 28, 2017.Mr. Van Sickle was born on May 12, 1939 in Marshall to Lorain and Florence G. (Bunday) Van Sickle.  He was a life long resident of the Marshall area and was a graduate of Marshall High School, class of 1956.  He then continued his education attending Michigan State University.   Blaine grew up on the family farm in Marengo Township and engaged in farming his entire life.On April 9, 1960, he married the former Judy Lake in Lansing at the Mt. Hope United Methodist Church.  Their marriage ended in divorce.  He then married Sharon A. Bosserd on May 3, 1975 in the Marshall United Methodist Church.  Sharon preceded him in death on January 11, 2013.  Blaine and Judy reunited and on April 9, 2015, the couple exchanged wedding vows again at their home in Marengo Township.Blaine lived a life of service and shared his time with the residents of Calhoun County and the State.  He served on the Mar Lee School Board for 40 years.  He retired as the President of the Board.  Blaine was elected to the Michigan Farm Bureau Board of Directors, serving as the District #2 Chairman representing a five county area.  In 1997, Blaine traveled to Washington D.C. to meet with members of Congress to discuss the pressing agricultural issues facing farmers.  He also served as the president of the Calhoun County Farm Bureau. Blaine served Calhoun County as the Drain Commissioner for 8 years.  He then was elected as a Calhoun County Commissioner representing the 6th District. A position he proudly held until deciding to not run for re-election in 2016.Blaine was a member of the Marshall United Methodist Church.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman.  He fished the years round never missing an opportunity to put his line into the water.  He enjoyed yearly fishing trips to Canada.  In his youth, he enjoyed snowmobiling.  A favorite pastime of Blaine's was restoring old tractors.He is remembered by his family as a tireless worker serving the people of Calhoun County and as a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.  He will greatly missed by all.He is survived by his wife, Judy; a daughter, Kathy (Susan Bryan) Van Sickle of Charlotte; sons, Kent (Michelle) Van Sickle of Marshall, Scott (Debra) Riever of Grand Rapids and Trevor (Connie) Riever of Marshall; grandchildren Chela Van Sickle, Jacob Van Sickle, Garret Van Sickle, Evie Kiryanoff and Liza Wolfersberger; and sister, Doreen Van Sickle of Marshall.He was preceded in death his parents, Lorain and Florence Van Sickle and a wife, Sharon (Bosserd) Van Sickle.The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2PM to 4 PM and 6 PM to 8 PM at the Craig K. Kempf Family Funeral Homes, Marshall Chapel. A funeral service to celebrate the gift of his life will be held 11 AM Wednesday February 1, 2017 with Reverend Patricia Bromberek officiating at the funeral home.  Interment will follow in Oakridge Cemetery.Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to the Mar-Lee Schools or to the Marshall United Methodist Church.  Assistance with memorials is available at the funeral home.To leave a personal message and sign the online guest book, please visit www.kempffuneralhome.com.
