Ardis NeishArdis Elaine Neish, 87, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 4, 2017. Services will be held on Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 3300 E. 18th St., Sioux Falls. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 7, 2017, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 901 S. Minnesota Avenue Sioux Falls. Ardis was born on May 12, 1929 on a farm near Davis, SD, to Howard Sr. & Jeanette (Noteboom) Olson. She grew up in Davis and attended rural schools near Davis and Lennox. She graduated from Davis High School and went on to earn a teaching degree from Southern State Teachers College in Springfield, SD. She returned to Davis and taught in a one-room schoolhouse. She married Richard Neish on October 5, 1956, and they recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Dick & Ardis made their home in Sioux Falls where they raised their four children; Steven, Dianna, Nancy & Pamela. Ardis was very active with her children's schools and was a very frequent volunteer, room mother, Girl Scout leader, PTA member and president. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was often in the attendance at events involving her kiddos. She was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church where she served on many committees over the years including Sheparding, Education, and Alter Guild. For many years she taught Sunday school, Bible school and confirmation, including traveling to the Native American community of Ideal, SD, for several summers to teach Bible school. Over the years, she and Dick volunteered for numerous organizations including delivering Meals on Wheels until she was physically unable to do so. Ardis was a devoted Christian woman with a strong faith and spent time daily in prayer and devotion. She taught many how to enjoy life's simple pleasures and how to appreciate all of God's glory. Ardis is survived by her loving husband of over 60 years, Richard Neish; son Steven (Nina) Neish of San Antonio, TX; daughters Dianna (Matthew) Foley of Manson, IA; Nancy (Terry) Watters, and Pam (Marty) Grilley, of Sioux Falls; 9 grandchildren: Marcus, Alexandra & Fayth Neish; Tara (Brady) White; Tracee (Dustin) Ronke; Danielle (Matthew) Piorier; Lyndi Watters; Brandon (Megan) Grilley; and Tyler (Jenny) Grilley; along with 10 great-grandchildren; brother James (Annette) Olson; sister Betty Knutson, sister-in-law Sharon Neish, brother-in-law Arlen Jensen, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers Howard Jr., Philip & Lyle Olson; sisters Marlis Jensen & Janice Olson; brothers-in-law Willard Knutson & Ronald Neish. Ardis deeply loved her family and was a truly dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister, mentor and friend.
