Alice Helen (Smith) EvansAlice Helen (Smith) Evans was born on May 18, 1930 in Chireno, TX to Hollis Obin Smith and Nettie Mae Dupree Smith. She was preceded in death by 1 sister and 4 brothers. She married George C. Adams, Jr. of the U.S. Navy in Shreveport, LA in 1947, was preceded by his death in 1983. She married John H. Evans, Captain in the U.S. Army in Longview, TX in 1989, and was preceded by his death in 2000. She was preceded in death by son, Russell Evans, in 2001.Alice went to meet her sweet Lord Jesus on December 16, 2016. During her peaceful passage, she was surrounded by beloved family, by prayer, and by music that celebrated her life. Alice is survived by daughter Helen Jean "Jeannie" Doucette, by son George Michael Adams and spouse Diane Adams, by son Kerry Alfred Adams and spouse Linda Adams, and by daughter Sharon Horn and spouse Tommy Horn.Alice is survived by 10 grandchildren, and 23 great grandchildren. Alice is also survived by many dear friends, extended family members, her church family, and a multitude of fellow Christ followers. Alice was known by many names to many people. She was affectionately referred to as "Mema", "Me-Me", "Meems", Ms. Alice, Ms. Helen, Mama, "Darlin'", "Beulah", and "Ethel". She was loved by many, and those many were loved by her in return. She was a blessing to everyone she knew and always gave endlessly. Her smile could light up a room, and her laughter was contagious. She loved flowers—especially daisies, and enjoyed quietly sitting in her chair to take in the beauty of the outdoors. She had a standing Thursday hair appointment with her fellow "Steel Magnolias", and she fiercely loved her loyal friends…enjoying their company immensely. She was quite the artist, and she appreciated art, both manmade and in nature. Alice loved music, and she loved to sing. She was a member of her church choir for many years. She was a prayer warrior for anyone and everyone in need. Alice was passionate about her faith, even up until her final breath. She accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior at the age of 7, at Calvary Baptist Church in Shreveport, LA. Her beloved preacher was Pastor Buchanan. Alice was a devout Christian, both in word and in deed. She led by example, and many of her family members and acquaintances came to know the Lord, as a result. She, undoubtedly, would want anyone touched by her passing to come to know Christ on the personal level that she did. Alice knew her purpose in this world. She was a friend; a wife; a mother, and a grandmother. She was a giver; a servant. She served her loved ones throughout her entire life, but more importantly…she served her Lord. We know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that she was welcomed into the arms of Christ as His good and faithful servant. She is gone from this earth, but will never be forgotten. We know that we will, one day, see her smiling face again. Services for Mrs. Evans will be held at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home on Monday, December 19, 2016 at 11 AM. Rev. John Lary will officiate. The family will receive guests on Sunday, December 18 from 2-4PM at the funeral home. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Cornerstone Hospital of Bossier City. Their compassionate level of care and willingness to go the extra mile for our sweet Mema was professional, and still so very personal. Thank you.
