Ted Ernest DewsSan AngeloTed Ernest Dews, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on Jan. 28, 2017. He was born on Sept. 29, 1932, in Garner, Texas, to Clayton Ernest Dews and Carlie Virginia Baker Dews. He was a loving brother of Jack Dews, Hank Dews, and Colleen Dews McConathy. He attended Polytechnic High School in Fort Worth, Texas, graduating at the age of sixteen in 1949. Two years later, he joined the Naval Reserves as a Fireman Recruit. Following basic training, he was discharged from the Naval Reserves to join the Air Force, serving in the Military Police from 1951-1955. Ted married Wanda Gail Rea on July 2, 1960, in Kermit, Texas, at First Baptist Church with Hal Upchurch officiating. He served as a Sunday School teacher and R.A. leader for many years. He was ordained as a deacon at First Baptist Church in Ozona, Texas, on Jan. 27, 1974, and later served as deacon at Immanuel Baptist Church in San Angelo, Texas. He became a Deacon Emeritus on April 20, 2008.Ted was employed by Harbison-Fischer for over thirty years. After his retirement in 1997, he and Wanda served in the Texas Baptist Retiree Builders and Mission Service Corps for ten years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, serving as President and in other offices. He also volunteered many hours at the Baptist Retirement Center in San Angelo. Ted was a loving husband and father. He was an avid reader and loved building things. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter as their devoted Pops. He spent much time attending plays, concerts, competitions, recitals, and the various sporting events of his children and grandchildren as well as following the teams his children have coached. Ted is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Jack Dews, sister Colleen McConathy, sister-in-law Betty Dews, and brother-in-law Bill Rea. He is survived by Wanda, his wife of 56 years, and his children: daughter Rea Lynn Becker and husband John of Tyler, Texas; son Allen Dews and wife Cindy of Taylor, Texas; son Andrew Dews and wife Lisa of Abilene, Texas; grandchildren Joshua Dews, Jacob Becker, Kaylea Peacock and husband Jacob, Samuel Becker, Tyler Dews, and Jesse Dews; and great-granddaughter Emily-Rea Peacock. Survivors also include his brother Hank Dews and wife Jeanie of Burleson, Texas; brother-in-law Lee McConathy of Benbrook, Texas; brother-in-law Tony Rea and wife Brenda of Amarillo, Texas; sister-in-law Mary Rea of Odessa, and numerous nephews and nieces. Ted's family would like to thank Baptist Retirement Center, Regency House, Kindred Hospice, and Dr. John Harvey for their love and care. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation to the at 225 N. Visitation will take place on Friday, Feb. 3, 2017, at Johnson's Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The funeral will take place at Immanuel Baptist Church at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Ozona, Texas at 2:30 p.m. Ted's grandsons will serves as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers are Jerry Perry, Rick Storms, Gene Hood, Harold Shaw, Chuck Cosper, Bob Falkner, Jerry Scoggins, Ross Jefferson, and Larry Sullivan.
