Sara "Sally" Squires WeedAGE: 88 • HockessinSara "Sally" Squires Weed passed away at age 88 at her home in Hockessin, Delaware on Sunday, October 30 surrounded by her family. She was born on May 20, 1938 in Lexington, Kentucky to Elizabeth and Lombard Squires.Sally graduated from Westtown School in Westtown Pennsylvania in 1946 and from Wells College in Aurora New York in 1950. After graduation she took a job in her field until she married Joseph Weed in 1952.She had an interest in skiing and she met Joe through a mutual membership in the Wilmington Ski Club. During their 63 year marriage they built their dream house, raised three children and shared common interests. Sally took pride in being a homemaker. She enjoyed many hobbies including gardening, singing in choirs and being outdoors. She enjoyed music, especially attending the symphony and opera. Sally and Joe were both members of the Delaware Oratorio Society and the Newcastle Choral Society. She was a member of Saint Alban's Episcopal Church where she and Joe sang in the church choir. Recently they were members of The Christ Church Christiana Hundred.Sally was a sweet natured woman and caring mother. Joe pre-deceased Sally last June. She is survived by her children Harry, Andrew (Connie), Brenda (Robert) Steffon. Also survived by her sisters Elizabeth Gaw and Susan Squires, nieces Stephanie Gaw (Wendy), Donna Gaw (Becky), Eric Gaw (great nephews Morgan, Xander and great niece Hero).The family thanks friends who helped during this time and especially The Delaware Hospice.Interment will be private. A memorial service celebrating the lives of Joe and Sally will be held in the spring of 2017. Memorial donations may be made in Sally's name to the Delaware Center for Horticulture, 1810 DuPont St., Wilmington DE 19806.
