NICHOLAS R. THOMAS, 86 FREEPORT - Nicholas R. Thomas, 86, of Freeport, died Wednesday, February 4, 2015, at Rockford Memorial Hospital. Mr. Thomas was born on November 23, 1928, in Campbellsville, Kentucky, the son of William and Linnie (Hutchison) Thomas. Nick married Janette Wiley on October 13, 1948, in Petersburg, IL. Mrs. Thomas died on December 30, 2012. Nick first farmed in Jo Daviess County for over 20 years before working for Farm Services in both Stephenson and Jo Daviess Counties. Nick was a member of United Presbyterian Church, Freeport Lions Club, Eagles Club #679, Elks Lodge #617, and the Freeport Masonic Lodge. Nick enjoyed dancing, golfing, and singing. Surviving are two sons, Nicholas J. (Dawn) Thomas of Hanover and Ted W. (Kathy) Thomas of Overland Park, Kansas; daughter, Linda K. (Terry) Kirch of Naples, Florida; sister, Jane (Bob) Rebbe of Petersburg; grandchildren, Andrea (Rob Deming) Kirch, Matthew (Kelly) Kirch, Jacqlyn Thomas, Eric Thomas, and Kevin Thomas. Also surviving are three great-grandchildren, Mackensie, Katelyn, and Kyla Kirch. Preceded in death by his parents; wife; two brothers; and one sister. Memorial services will be at noon Thursday, February 12, 2015, at United Presbyterian Church. Pastor Kathleen Luke will officiate. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Freeport Lions Club and the Elks Lodge #617, in Nick's memory.
