Mary Sylvia Locke Mary Sylvia Locke, 87, passed on May 21, 2016 in Agape House of Lexington, SC. Sylvia is most-recognized as the face of the Beaufort Gazette, after working the front administrative desk of the Beaufort office for over 20 years. She is celebrated as a devoted wife, loving mother, caring grandmother, and tireless servant for her community and church. During her life, she never met a stranger. She was the example of generosity, love, faith and dignity. Mrs. Locke was born on July 29, 1928, in Elloree, SC, a daughter of Annie Ulmer Keller and David Evans Keller. She graduated from Elloree High School and Winthrop College, with a degree in Business. She married Thomas Harold Locke in 1947 and travelled abroad with him on his many U.S. Army assignments. During this time, she had their only child, Thomas Evans Locke, on January 3rd, 1950. Upon her husband's retirement, they made their home in Beaufort, SC. Sylvia Locke was predeceased by both her husband and son and is survived by her grandson, Jason Thomas Locke and great-granddaughter, Sylvia Madeleine Locke of New York City and grandson, Brian Carroll of Columbia, SC. Sylvia, aka "Sissy" to her siblings, was preceded in death by her three sisters, Anna Laura Stroman, Edith Ketcherside and Carolyn Rush, and two brothers, David William Keller and Thomas Russell Keller. Graveside service will be held at St. Helena's Episcopal Cemetery, Beaufort, SC, at 11 am on Tuesday, May 22nd. In lieu of flower, the family asks donations be made to Saint Jude's Hospital. Anderson Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family.
