Marguerite Hugel passed away peacefully on February 2, 2017 two weeks before her 98th birthday; a long life well-lived. She was born on February 14, 1919, daughter of the late Robert and Edna McLaughlin. Marguerite married Fred Hugel on September 26, 1943. She was a loving, devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her nature was bright, feisty and full of interest in the people around her. She loved to talk, right to the end. She was an avid needle worker, making clothes, embroidery, and fine hand-stitched quilts. She read voraciously, and always said that if you have a good book, youre never alone. She kept a happy home for her family, in the house she and Fred built and lived in for over 60 years. Marguerite loved her community and served it well. She was active in church her whole life, serving as a long-time Sunday school teacher and visitor to the ill and elderly. She was a co-founder of the Boxborough Council on Aging, sharing her commitment to the value of older people in society. She was a Girl Scout leader, and volunteered with special-needs child- ren. She worked with the Red Cro- ss on blood drives, and enjoyed the Boxborough Garden Club. She was a good friend. Marguerite was predeceas- ed by Fred a year ago. She is survived by her daughter Susan deGrandpre, her son Jeffrey and daughter-in-law Kate, grandchildren Caitlin and Tucker, step- grandchildren Judith, Gerard and Jean Guy, and nieces and nephews. Her life will be celebrated with a service on Saturday, February 11 at 11:00 am at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 16 Great Road, Sudbury.
