Maizie TerwillegarRhinebeck - Maizie Terwillegar, 90, a longtime resident of Poughkeepsie, NY, passed away on Sunday, August 27, 2017 at the Baptist Home in Rhinebeck, NY. She was born on March 23, 1927 in Poughkeepsie, NY, the daughter of the late Minnie Pritchard. During the same year that Minnie celebrated the birth of her daughter Maizie, the world celebrated both Charles Lindbergh's first solo flight across the Atlantic and the beginning of the construction at Mount Rushmore.She worked in the Candy Department at Luckey Platt and Co. where she spent a thoroughly enjoyable career selling and perhaps sampling quite a few delicious treats. She gave up her career when she married the love of her life, Ralph Terwillegar Jr., and spent her time raising their son Michael. Later in life she went back to work at the historic Locust Grove Estate (former home of Samuel Morse) in Poughkeepsie, NY.Maizie devoted much of her life to the care and welfare of animals. She worked with several animal rescue groups to ensure that animals received food, health services and safe homes. Her greatest joy in life came from spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Maizie is survived by her son Michael; daughter-in-law Susan; granddaughter Amanda (Barela) and her husband Christopher Barela; grandson Matthew; and great granddaughters Emma and Cora. She was predeceased by her husband Ralph; and sisters Gwendolyn Pritchard and Evelyn Pritchard.The family would like to express their gratitude to everyone at the Baptist Home for the care and support that they provided.Memorial services will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Maizie's name to The Dutchess County SPCA, 636 Violet Ave., Hyde Park, NY 12538.
