Kaethe DickinsonRHINEBECK - Kaethe Dickinson passed into her heavenly life on May 22, 2017. Kaethe was born on September 27, 1919, in Flensburg, Wandrup, Germany, the youngest of four children born to Alwine (Moeller) and Jens Christiansen. In 1928 the Christiansen family emigrated to the United States and began their new life in New Rochelle, NY. After graduating from New Rochelle High School, Kay worked as a sales clerk in a dress shop. She met Arthur Dickinson and they wed in 1940. Art became a Senior Engineering/Planning Specialist with IBM and they eventually moved to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. where Kay was a member of the First Lutheran Evangelical Church. Kay was a homemaker, an avid bowler and enjoyed sewing, traveling and gatherings with family and friends. She lived a very full life and was loved by all. Kaethe was a warm, loving, generous lady with a good word, good advice and a smile and hug for everyone. Without children of her own, Kaethe considered all of her Christiansen, Schmidt, Kennett and Dickinson nieces and nephews as "her children" and shared boundless love and support with them. She had a strong spirit, was a wonderful role model for all who knew her and will be greatly missed.Kaethe Dickinson was predeceased by her beloved husband Arthur, her parents Alwine and Jens, and her siblings and their spouses: Annette (Schmidt) and Werner Christiansen, Erna (Christiansen) and Gerhart Schmidt and Louise (Gleason) and Herbert Christiansen. She is survived by her loving nieces and nephews: Werner (Chris) Christiansen, Dorothy Christiansen, Glen (Chris) Christiansen, Ellen (Schmidt) Kennett and Kathy Schmidt, seven grand nieces and nephews, 29 great grand nieces and nephews and three great, great grand nieces and nephews. Kaethe Dickinson's graveside memorial service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 5th at the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, 342 South Ave, Poughkeepsie, NY. Family and friends will be gathering at Kathy Schmidt's home, 374 Rokeby Rd., Red Hook, NY 12571 to share comfort and memories of Kaethe (Aunt Kay) Dickinson.In lieu of flowers, contributions in Kay's honor can be sent to the Brookemeade Community Foundation, The Baptist Home at Brookmeade, 46 Brookmeade Dr, Rhinebeck, NY 12572.
