Barnes, Juanita JoyceJuanita Joyce Barnes, 85, passed away on Monday, October 30, 2017 at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown. She was born on July 9, 1932, daughter of the late James Buyea and Hazel (DeWitt) Buyea Anderson. On October 13, 1956, she was married to Milton Roger Barnes. They shared 58 years of marriage before he predeceased her on July 21, 2015.Joyce attended nursing school in Binghamton to become a Registered Nurse. She worked at The Hospital in Sidney for many years. She continued to enjoy the company of her work colleagues with get-togethers throughout her retirement. Joyce loved animals; she had horses for several years, and also liked to feed and watch the birds. She also enjoyed reading.She will be missed by: her 4 children: Mark and Cathy Barnes of Unadilla, Alison and Rick Barnes of Unadilla, Tim Barnes and Jeanette Stevens of Sidney and Lisa (Barnes) French of Unadilla; grandchildren: Christopher Barnes, Michelle Crandall, Donald Wood, II (Jenna), Sean Wood (Ashley), Nicole Wood, Justin Barnes, Taylor Barnes, Doug Bryden, Derek Bryden, Hunter Stevens, Spenser Stevens, Brett and Laura French and Joseph Ermeti; great-grandchildren: ZoeBeth Crandall, Jack Redmond, Rhian Gill, Ethan and Ava French and Carson Ganoung; brother and sister-in-law, Andy and Teri Anderson; brothers-in-law, Richard Barnes and Edward Barnes; sisters-in-law, Dolores and Ed Wilson, Janice Mills and Barbara Cawley, her beloved dog, Jake; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.In addition to her parents and husband, Joyce was predeceased by her son, Eric Barnes in 2011, and by two brothers, James and Richard Buyea.Friends are invited to call on Friday, November 3, 2017 from 7:00-9:00pm at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney. A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 4th at 11:00am at the funeral chapel with Eugene Pigford officiating. Burial in Prospect Hill Cemetery will be private.
