Joseph A. Miara of Winchester, passed away on Oct. 31, 2016, he was 84 years old. Joe was born on December 2, 1931 in Brookline , MA. Beloved husband of 62 years to Lois C. Miara, and devoted father to Joseph A. Miara Jr. and his wife, Lisa, of Boston, MA, Timothy Miara of Tewksbury, MA, Beth Miara Goodwin and her husband Sean, of Reading, MA, Matthew Miara , of Winchester, MA and John Miara and his wife Allyson, of Everett, MA He was also the cherished Papa to his 10 grandchildren; Amy, Joseph III, Samantha, Jill, Allison, Katie, Timothy Jr., Brooke, John Jr. and Brendan. Loving brother of Theresa Cataldo and her husband Carlo, the late Robert Miara, and Barbara Gratton and her husband Tony. Brother-in-law to Frank Fitzgerald and his wife Nancy and the late Charles Fitzgerald. Shortly after high school Joe served in the
Korean war as a mortar man and received the Combat Infantryman Badge. Upon return from the army, he married his beloved wife on September 3, 1955. Together they raised 5 children in Winchester Joe began his career working for various transportation companies, until in 1957 he started his own trucking and rigging business, J.A. Miara Transportation. Today his highly successful company is run by his eldest son Joe Jr. His sons Tim and John and grandchildren, Joe III and Amy, also work in the family business. Joe loved to travel with his wife and family. It didnt matter to him where he was going as long as he had Lois at his side. He and his family went on great adventures to Ireland, Scotland, England, France, Iceland, Greenland, Galapagos Islands, charter boat cruise through the British Virgin Islands, all 48 continental US states plus Alaska, whitewater rafting, hot air ballooning, riverboat cruise down the Mississippi River plus various cruises throughout the Caribbean. But one of Joes favorite places was his house on the coast of Maine. He referred to this home as the backdoor to heaven. Joes kindness and compassion was boundless. His love and devotion to his wife and family was infinite. Lois was truly the love of this life! Joe was a lifetime member of the Chelsea Yacht Club, a 4th degree Knight at Knights of Columbus and a member of the
VFW. Joe is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and friends. A funeral will be held from the Lane Funeral Home 760 Main St. (Rte. 38) WINCHESTER on Friday November 4th at 9am. Followed by a Mass of Christian burial at St. Marys Church Winchester at 10am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Thursday 4-7pm.
