In loving memory....

Jimmy West dies on Jan. 4 in Havelock

JIMMY WAYNE WEST

Jimmy Wayne West, 38 of Havelock, in his words, “kicked the bucket” on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2020, at Carteret Medical Center, shortly after noon in time to have his first lunch in heaven with his momma and pawpaw. He is no longer suffering from the afflictions caused by pancreatic cancer or other earthly tortures, like bills or taxes, but is now enjoying a new body free of pain and fear.

However, he did leave behind a crazy, but loving, family to mourn. These include Misty Clark of Havelock, the love of his life who cared for him until the end and never left his side; his grandmother, Oma Anderson of North Wilkesboro; a son, Landon West of Millers Creek; his daughters, Trinity West of Millers Creek and Sydney West of Havelock; a stepdaughter, Jada Coffey of Newland; his sisters, Nikki Lewis and husband, Shannon, of Wilkesboro, Carol Hunter and husband, Josh, of Ernul and Tiffany West and fiancé, Jamie McCarty, of North Wilkesboro; a brother, Adam West and wife, Brianna, of Ronda; his nephews, Joshua and Jonathan Hunter; his nieces, Allyah Finney, Ashton West, Alexis Wyatt, Avalee Lewis and Paisley West; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Jimmy was greeted upon his heavenly arrival by many loved ones who had passed before him, including his momma, Carol West; his biological father, Ronnie West; his pawpaw, Jimmy Anderson; and his grandparents, Wayne and Olla Mae West.

Jimmy was full of life and did so much in his 38 years. He was far from perfect, but that did not keep him from being the best he could be. Thanks to his gift of gab, he never met a stranger. He could talk your ear off and still have something to say. He had a great sense of humor that he got from his mom, and though he is gone, the family is still finding evidence an insatiable love of life (and food). His favorite foods included cheeseburgers, mac-n-cheese and ice cream, but, let’s face it, if it involved food, you could find him there.

He was a loving and caring father and uncle, a great friend, an awesome brother and so much more. He adored his three children and fought hard until the end to be here for them, but his body was tired. Pancreatic cancer may have cut his earthly life short, but the legacy he leaves behind will live on in the hearts and memories of all those who knew and loved him. The family is thankful for God’s grace for sending His son, Jesus, so that they may have the opportunity to say, “see you later,” and not goodbye forever.

Jimmy made the decision to have his body donated to a medical school in the hopes he could help save a life and to honor his oncologist, Dr. Luis Cuervo, who prayed with and for him and gave him courage to continue to fight, even when he felt he had nothing left to give.

No funeral will be held; however, a memorial service is planned for Sunday, Feb. 16, 2020, at Atlantic Beach for close friends and relatives. A memorial service is planned for Sunday, Feb. 16, 2020, at Atlantic Beach for close friends and relatives. A memorial service in Wilkes County is incomplete at this time.

The family would like to express gratitude for the humbling care and generosity Jimmy and they received throughout his cancer journey and the last few days of his life from the staff of Carteret Medical Center in Morehead City. Thank you to all who have reached out during this difficult time.

“I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course. I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7.
