James L. Trainor WWII Veteran February 12, 1921- February 12, 2016 James L. Trainor of Hilton Head Island died peacefully on February 12, 2016. Mr. Jim is survived by his children Janice, Elaine, Lauren, Marcia and is preceded in death by Louise, his grandchildren Jill (Rich), Jim (Kara), and Jason (Heather), and his great-grandchildren Richard, Abigail, Ryan and Hannah. He will be missed by Tanya and Andrea and all his "Nutz" friends. Jim was born on February 12, 1921 in Albany, NY to Hugh and Teresa. He graduated from Vincention Institute in 1940 and joined the Navy in 1941. He was assigned to the USS Quincy which was sunk in the battle of Savo Island in August of 1942. After WWII he became an air traffic controller for the FAA in Albany, NY. He retired in 1983. A wake is scheduled for Sunday, February 21, from 2-4pm with a service at 3:30pm at The Island Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will be held at Beaufort National Cemetery on Monday, February 22 at 11am. www.theislandfuneralhome.com
