Herbert M. Histed – (66) – formerly of Brainard Hill Rd., Belfast, and also formerly of Hornell, died Thursday morning (December 10, 2020) at the Buffalo VA hospital where he had resided for the past three months.
Born in Belfast on October 28, 1954, he was the son of Bruce Histed and Barbara Histed (Halls).
Herbert grew up in Tonawanda and was a graduate of Tonawanda High School. He has resided in Buffalo since 1983.
Herbert was a sergeant of the US Marines reviving honorable discharge in 1985. While residing in Buffalo, he was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church.
For many years he was employed as an machine mechanic for Buffalo Pumps, retiring in 2018. He was happy to be able to enjoy his retirement fishing with family and friends, as well as camping out at his Belfast cottage. Herbert was surrounded by his son, daughter, as well as his family and visiting friends & relatives.
Herbert was married on November 4, 1988 to Maureen Histed (Monette) who died October 31, 2011. Surviving are his son, Nathan Histed of North Tonawanda, daughter Shaina Stacey (Histed) of Clermont, Florida, his brother, Bruce Histed Jr of Tonawanda; 2 grandchildren; several nieces & nephews. Due to the recent health concerns regarding the Coronavirus, there will be no calling hours. A Private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ann’s Church in Hornell at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fremont, NY.

Herbert’s family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, PO Box 1000 – Dept. 300 Memphis, TN 38148. Memorial forms will be available at the Fretchesman Funeral Home.
