The Dear Lord took our beloved Gilbert ""Givé"" Martinez at the age of 68 on Nov. 4, 2013, as he was surrounded by his family.Gilbert was born on March 25, 1945, in Las Vegas to Fidel and Rose Martinez. He spent a lot of time in San Augustine since early childhood. Gilbert lived for his family and was very proud of his four grandchildren.Gilbert was a rancher who loved taking care of his cattle and horses. He loved riding his four-wheeler especially to pray at his beloved Gail's memorial atop the hill on his ranch. Gilbert worked and retired as a cook from New Mexico Highlands University. Gilbert was a jokester who was constantly making people laugh.Gilbert is preceded in death by his only daughter, Gail; father, Fidel, and mother, Rose.He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Helen; son, Gilbert ""Guba"" Martinez and wife, Felicia and their children, Amor, Santana, Noah and Santos; sister, Eva Gonzales and husband, Lorenzo and family; brothers, Cerilio Martinez and wife, Marcella and family, Lorenzo Martinez and wife, Annabelle and family, and Armando Martinez and family. Also surviving him are sister-in-law, Molly Baca and husband, Louie; brothers-in-law, Eustacio Arguello, Lawrence Arguello and wife, Perla and family.A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today (Friday) at Immaculate Conception Church in Las Vegas. Funeral mass will also be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church by Father George Salazar at 9 a.m. Saturday. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
