Evelyn A. Eden was born in Wauconda, IL on December 25, 1850 to Pate Ree Ark and Marta Dom (Nee). She married and assumed the name and identity of Adam Eden (Coleman, pp. 78). She leaves to mourn her death and learn from her life, her children- Genna Rai Sean, Frii Fem, Celie Mae, Christo Magdalene. “As a woman, she accepted the name of “Other” within a patriarchal culture, inasmuch as she had accepted a role, a place, a name without realizing her human freedom to name herself, she had been guilty of the sin of hiding; inasmuch as she had poured herself into vicarious living, inasmuch as she had denied her sense of self in total submission to father/husband/boss or in total self-giving to children, job, or family, she had been guilty of the sin of hiding. As she had been afraid to dream a dream for herself as well as for others, and as trained herself to live a submerged existence, she was hidden from her full humanity.”(Coleman, pp. 78)
