ELEONORE MARIA HUTTO Obituary

Mar 14, 1939 - Jan 06, 2016

This obituary is administered by:
ELEONORE "ELLEN" MARIA HUTTO Eleonore "Ellen" Maria Hutto, 77, of Kansas City, MO passed away November 6th, 2016 of natural causes. She was preceded in death by her father Roman, mother Elisabeth, and brothers Gunther and Klaus and by granddaughter Eleonore Rose. Ellen is survived by her husband Earl, two sons Mark and Steven, daughter-in-law Lisa, and six grandchildren; Lauren, Rachel, Matthew, Steven Jr., Patrick and Thomas. Ellen was born on March 14, 1939 in Hindenburg, Germany. She was the daughter of Elisabeth and Roman Werner. After experiencing and surviving the extreme nature of world war as a young child, her family made the move to Berlin. Ellen and her family persevered through challenges caused by the building of the Berlin Wall and subsequent Berlin Airlift. During this time her father Roman was taken captive and held in Russian gulags until 1955. Through all these challenges, Ellen graduated from high school and completed her education at a business school in Berlin. Ellen and her family moved to Weisbaden, Germany where she met her husband, Earl. They married in February of 1961. Their marriage joined two families whose patriarchs, Roman Werner and Joe Hutto, had previously fought on different sides of the World War II. Roman and Joe became life-long friends who shared a mutual respect that only veteran soldiers could understand. Ellen and Earl moved to America in the same year they married. After perfecting her English by watching sitcoms, Ellen became a proud citizen of the United States in 1963. Ellen had a successful career in accounting but her main job was leading dance parties in their basement for the friends of her sons. Those who were lucky enough to attend one of these parties could understand the legendary nature of such events and the magnificence of which Ellen led them. In 1989, Ellen faced and conquered cancer of the kidney early in her life. Little did she know of the next challenge to come. In October 2000, Ellen suffered a severe stroke that transformed her life forever. Through all her crosses Ellen carried, never once did she ever ask the question, "Why me?". Ellen set an example for us all rooted in faith, resiliency and courage. She was a kind and tolerant person who loved all. Truly, she was a selfless servant. Services will be held at St. Thomas More on Friday, November 11th. The Rosary will be prayed at 10:00 am with visitation following until 11:30am. Mass will begin at 11:30am with burial services immediately following at Mt. Moriah Cemetery, 10507 Holmes Rd in KCMO. All are welcome to return to St. Thomas More Hall afterwards for a reception with the family.
