Dorothy E. Burris, age 74, of Dover, DE, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, March 11, 2017 surrounded by her family.Dorothy was born on August 7, 1942 in Dover, DE.She was preceded in death by her son, Michael; her mother, Mary Shields; two brothers, Billy Shockley and John Foraker; and her sister, Betty Kent.She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Charles M. Burris, Jr.; her daughters, Christine Vennard (husband Jim) and Bobbie Jo Watts; her sister, Rufus Shockley (wife Diane); grandchildren, Michael Mogavero, Jimmy Vennard (wife Kathryn), Daniel Vennard (wife Danielle), Andrea DeCoteau (husband Mike and family) and Gregory Watts; great grandchildren, Sampson, Graeme, and Zoey Vennard. She is also survived by lifelong friends, Hazel Porter, Connie Selby and Janine Faulkner.Dorothy was considered the Honorary Mayor of Leisure Point, where she enjoyed spending summers amongst dear friends. The family has many fond memories of the years spent at Leisure Point.A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2017 from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 S. Main St., Smyrna.
