Doris Crain MatthewsGreerDoris Crain Matthews, 91, died Saturday, April 29, 2017, surrounded by the love of her family. Doris was born on February 12, 1926, to the late Fred and Leo Pettit Crain. The oldest of five children, her siblings, Ruth Wright, Bobby (Lou) Crain, Jimmy (Jean) Crain, Yvonne (Steve) Hyatt , all survive her, living in the upstate area. In addition, she is survived by her sister-in-law and husband, Imogene and Wink Major.A woman of faith and the heart of the Matthews family, Doris served as a strong example to her family and friends through her walk with Christ and her never-ceasing prayer over their lives. She was a dedicated member of Taylors First Baptist Church and had an unwavering faith in God. She married the love of her life, William "Billy" Matthews, on May 4, 1946, and they spent 51 years together, raising three daughters and living in Taylors surrounded by family and close friends. She had an enthusiasm for life and could be found sunbathing, shopping, or on the sidelines of her grandchildren's many sporting events.Doris was predeceased by her loving husband, Billy Mathews and daughter Billajean Rice. She is survived by two daughters, Donna Crist and Sheilah (Buck) Baker. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Renee (Jake) Wilson, Billy (Tara) Rice, Chuck (Amanda) Kuykendall, Adam Kuykendall, Brooke (Craig) Caudill, and Blair (Matt) Weeks. In addition, she was loved by 8 great-grandchildren.The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 3, 2017, from 11:30 a.m. until 1:15 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown with the funeral service following at 1:30 p.m. in our Downtown chapel. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.Her family wants to thank Fairview Park Assisted Living and Lutheran Hospice for the loving care they gave to her in the last days of her life. Our greatest gratitude for your love and kindness to "Mama".
