Long, David K.David K. Long, 76, of Bristol, RI and Fairfield, CT, passed away on February 28 in Providence, RI. He was born on September 30, 1940 in Akron, OH, the son of the late Max and Patricia (Finnegan) Long.David received a B.A. and M.A. in English and Speech Communication from the University of Akron in 1965 and 1969. He went on to receive a Ph.D. in Organizational Communication from Kent State University in 1974. In 1973, he joined the Department of Speech Communication at Ithaca College where he taught for three years. He was appointed Associate Professor in the Department of Management in the School of Business in 1976. David served as Assistant Dean until his promotion in 1979 to Dean of the Business School.In 1993, after 14 years of tireless contributions/service to the college, he left Ithaca to serve as Dean of the Business College at Bloomsburg University in PA. During his tenure, David proudly led the Business College to AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) International Accreditation in 2005. He served on the Board of Directors of the AACSB and the Middle Atlantic Association of Colleges of Business Administration (MAACBA) from 1994-2006. He was president of MAACBA from 1998-99. He consulted on business education matters throughout his career and authored many publications. Following his retirement in 2005, David stayed connected with students and higher education by teaching courses at Heidelberg University in Tiffin, OH and Roger Williams University in Bristol, RI. David was a supportive and loving father to the very end, proving to be a great listener, a remarkable conversationalist, as well as a deeply loyal friend. From his early days in Akron, OH, he was passionate about spending time with his Kenmore neighborhood friends. He enjoyed his Lone Star fraternity brothers from Akron University, as well as the many friends he made while teaching English at Goodyear Junior High School. David loved spending time with his children, traveling, voraciously devouring WWII history, and tinkering with his cars, especially his prized Corvette. He is survived by his adult children Meghan Long (Robert Terry) of Ithaca, NY; Jonathan Long (Frank Rozhon) of Rockville, MD; their mother and his former wife of 25 years, Kathleen Long Medkeff of Ithaca.
