Daniel Grant NewmanDaniel Grant Newman, age 78, of Chesapeake City, MD passed away Friday, September 15, 2017. Daniel was born on May 2, 1939, the son of the late Malcolm John Newman (d. May 24, 1973) and Bernetta Salsman Newman (d. May 27, 2003) of Laceyville, PA. Daniel is survived by his loving family: wife of 51 years, Deanna Newman; daughter and son-in-law, Katharine Newman and Stephen Kremser (Pacific Palisades, CA); son and daughter-in-law, Grant and Marianne Newman (New York, NY); grandchildren, Owen Grant, Olivia, Vivienne, and Lila Kremser (Pacific Palisades, CA). Drafted out of high school, Daniel played eight years of professional baseball with the Braves organization before attending college and eventually earning a Doctorate in Educational Administration. He also served in the United States Marine Corps and the Delaware National Guard, retiring as Lieutenant Colonel after 30 years of service. For nearly five decades, he helped to shape the character of young people as an educator, an administrator, a nationally certified counselor, and a football, basketball and baseball coach. The last 30 years of his educational career, he was a counselor at Elkton High School and Cecil County Vocational School. A celebration of life will be held at 7 p.m., Friday, September 29, 2017, at Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 W.
