Clair D. Gerow, age 91, of Corning, NY passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, PA surrounded by his loving family. Clair was born on June 25, 1925 in Corning, NY, the son of the late Ernest and the late Dora D. (Waters) Gerow. He married Betty Lou Smith in September of 1955 in Woodhull, NY. She predeceased him in March of 1977. He served in the United States Army during World War II from 1943 to 1946. He later returned to Corning and continued his employment with Corning, Inc. as a printer, retiring in June of 1986 after 40 years of service.Clair will be remembered for his love of dancing. He was known to attend weekly round and square dancing events, occasionally attending more than once each week. He enjoyed caring for and raising his many birds. Most of all, Clair will be remembered for his caring heart. He was always willing to help anyone in need – often checking on those who needed help. He was quick with a joke and could always make you laugh. His greatest joy came from his family. He was a huge family man and will be greatly missed.He is survived by two children: Candy (Joe) Wilson of Corning, NY, Kevin (Bobbi Horn) Gerow of Corning, NY; grandchildren: Eric Mullins, Logan Mullins, Stacy (Craig) Hills, Stephanie (Nicholas) Neally; great grandchildren: Elexa Neally, Kendall Neally, Henry Hills; sister, Sandy Kay Smith of Corning, NY; brothers: Robert (Jane) Gerow of Corning, NY and Harold Gerow of FL; special friend, Nina Borham; special friends, Christine Gerow and Danny Stephens; and several nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents and wife, Clair was predeceased by an infant son, David Charles, son Bruce A. Gerow; and several brothers and sisters.Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday, February 5, 2017 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at Carpenter's Funeral Home, 14 E. Pulteney St., Corning, NY. A funeral service will immediately follow at the funeral home at 3:00pm, Pastor Patrick Neyman officiating.
