Debra Leslie transitioned into eternal life on June 11, 2018. While she believed in the benefits and technology of medicine, she was a woman of great faith. Having heard from God, she decided on an alternative plan to treat the diagnosis she was given in the summer of 2017. She maintained her faith and exceeded the doctor’s expiration date of four months. Her testimony revealed the glory of God while she was esteemed as a walking miracle.

Debra was born November 2nd, 1963 in Harlem, New York to the late Jake and Willie Mae Walker. One week before her 53rd birthday, she married Charles Leslie, proving that love can be at any age. They traveled stateside and internationally and saw many beautiful places.

Throughout her life, she was known and will be remembered for a great legacy of love for her family and people from all walks of life. She was a great leader and pillar in her family and community. She has inspired many with her dynamic teaching, soulful singing, fervent praying, warm hospitality, excellent cooking and advocacy for anyone in need.

Debra loved music, especially quartet-style singing. Her home was always filled with sounds from many of her favorite artists. A skilled singer, Debra’s voice will be missed on the many songs she led over the years, but especially the sounds of soul and jazz that would often be heard in her home.

Debra was affectionately known as ‘Momma G’ to her family and close friends. She leaves to treasure her memories and continue her legacy, her children: son, Vertel Hinton; her caregiver and husband; son, Kelvin, Sr.; daughter, Mechell ; children-in-law/love: Carolyn, Cheryl; siblings: brother, Oscar Lee ; sisters, Verna and Bobbie; and sister-in-law/love, Maudie ; 23 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren; affectionately known as her extended children and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends that loved her dearly.
