Anne Rose GarrityAGE: 96 • DunwoodyAnne "Bunnie" Rose Garrity, of Dunwoody, GA died December 19, 2016 after a long illness at her home surrounded by family. Mrs. Garrity, daughter of the late Marie and Hugo Krause, was born on December 10, 1920 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. She graduated from Holy Spirit High School in Atlantic City, New Jersey as an honor student in Latin, French and Chemistry and attended Duquesne University as a Pharmacy student where she was a member of Theta Alpha Chi Sorority. While at Duquesne she met her future husband, William "Bill" Garrity, with whom she enjoyed 69 years of loving marriage and family.Anne's early years of marriage were spent in Wilmington, Delaware where while raising five children she was an active volunteer for many organizations including the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, the Junior Board of St. Francis Hospital, the Wilmington Flower Market and the Delaware Chapter of the Women's Organization of the National Association of Retail Druggists of which she was later President. After moving to Atlanta, Ga., she enjoyed over two decades working as a buyer and store manager for the Designing Woman, an Atlanta interior design and gifts store with friend and business owner, Emily Carnes.Family was Anne's most important priority. She strongly supported them in their endeavors, was there to comfort them in time of need, and was always ready to applaud their successes. Her husband said of her upon the occasion of their 65th Wedding Anniversary, "Little did I know she would fulfill the one dream that I always had and that was a dream not of riches, not of glory; but a good wife, a nice home, and a house full of kids. She more than fulfilled that dream - she has become my very life." She was much admired for her stoicism, strength, resiliency and dignity in face of hardship, which was especially evidenced during her years of failing health. She was proud and sweet, gracious and wise and exemplified an extraordinary work ethic. Her love of most sports was legendary and she was perhaps the Atlanta Braves' most loyal fan. Her subtle, but poignant humor was always on the mark even in her last days. Comforting her throughout her life was her strong and humble faith.Anne is survived by her daughters and son: Patricia Garrity Tigue Curran of Prospect, Kentucky, Jane Garrity Ruggiero of West Chester, Pennsylvania; Susan Garrity of Raleigh, North Carolina; Michael William Garrity of Minneapolis, Minnesota and their spouses: Gerald Curran, James Ruggiero, Jeffery Basham and Elizabeth Bibb Garrity.
