JONES, Anna Lou McCoyMarch 25, 1927 -November 26, 2016Anna Lou McCoy Jones, age 89 of Austin, Texas, passed away in her sleep and in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her family, on Saturday, November 26, 2016. Anna Lou was born on March 25, 1927, in the dusty, little Panhandle town of White Deer, Texas, to John Oscar McCoy, Sr. and Fannie Belle Hart McCoy of Hart, Texas. She spent her childhood and teenage years in White Deer and Pampa and attended Pampa High School, Home of the Harvesters, where she played clarinet in the high school marching band. She left Pampa after high school to attend Colorado Women's College in Denver, Colorado and graduated in 1946 with a degree in Journalism. While at college, she met her husband, J.C. Roy Jones, a Mississippian who served in World War II, and they were married on October 17, 1947, in Pampa, Texas. While residing in Pampa after marriage, she worked at Cabot Corporation Southwest Division as a switchboard operator and later moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, where her first child, Brad Cameron, was born in 1954. Shortly thereafter, she and Roy moved to Birmingham, Alabama, where she continued to work as a switchboard operator for Birmingham National Bank and Trust. She had her second child, Vickie Ann, in 1956, and continued on in her career, no longer as a switchboard operator, but as a wonderful, caring and loving Mother. She moved with her husband and children to Austin, Texas, in February 1963, and while raising her children, she partnered with her husband in numerous real estate ventures, helping with the financial aspects of the business. Austin became her home for the rest of her life. In 1964, she and her family joined Tarrytown Baptist Church, now The Sanctuary, where she taught Sunday school and bible study for many years, in addition to being very involved in her children's youth activities at the church. She was an active member in her Sunday school class, The Love Class, wherein she met many of her life-long, devoted friends. Anna Lou was known for sending birthday, get well and congratulatory cards to all of her fellow church-goers, young and old, making sure everyone else in the church signed each and every card before it was mailed. She also enjoyed taking part each year before Thanksgiving in helping sell the very best local shelled pecans from Seguin and Bastrop, raising money for one or more of the ministries that were special to The Love Class. Anna Lou lived in Tarrytown until 1996 before moving to 40 acres near Elroy where she resided until her death. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, J.C. Roy Jones, of Austin (Elroy); her son, Brad Cameron Jones of Austin; her daughter, Vickie Ann Jones, of Austin; her favorite, and only former son-in-law, Barry Gene Barnett of Dripping Springs; many, much loved, furry, four-legged grandchildren; and her cousins and nieces and nephews in-laws, in Texas, Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee, all of whom brought her much joy throughout her long, well-lived life. Anna Lou will be remembered for her never-ending love of God, her never-ending positive, glass half-full attitude toward life and, most of all, her never-ending love for her family. She was, and will always remain, an inspiration to those who knew and loved her. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 6, 2016, at The Sanctuary, 2416 Exposition Blvd., Austin, Texas. A viewing will be held at the church, prior to the service at 1:30 p.m., with the service beginning at 2:00 p.m. Officiating at the service will be Rev. Ragan Courtney and Rev. Cynthia Clawson Courtney, of Houston, whom Anna Lou loved dearly. Following the funeral service, interment will be at Austin Memorial Park, 2800 Hancock Drive, Austin, Texas. Special thanks to Veronica Maya and her sister, Nancy Maya, of Austin, who cared for Anna Lou and helped make the end of her life one filled with laughter and peace. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dementia Society of America, and/or the Austin Animal Center. Obituary and memorial guestbook available online at
