Andrew Ekblaw II, age 83, passed away on the evening of Friday, December 9, 2016. He was born on November 22, 1933 in Urbana, Illinois. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1955, and attended Field Artillery School at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Subsequently, he was stationed at Johnson Air Force Base in Japan for a year, and served alongside a KMAG unit in Korea. He graduated from the University of Illinois, Class of 1959, with a Bachelor Of Science in Civil Engineering. Following graduation, he began work in General Electric's training program, beginning in Bloomington, Illinois, and moving eastward, settling in Glenville in 1963. He was a Procurement Engineer at Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory from 1963 to 1999, returning part-time for a few years afterward. After retirement, he worked seasonally for H&R Block, and volunteered for AARP, as a Tax Aide. Andrew had a long association with the Boy Scouts of America. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout and Vigil Honor in the BSA service arm, the Order of the Arrow, during his youth in Arrowhead Council in Champaign, Illinois. As an adult in Schenectady County Council, he was a Committee Member of Pack 59 and Troop 59 (Glen-Worden School), Assistant Cubmaster of Pack 2 (Lincoln School), merit badge counselor, Camping Committee member, and unit Commissioner. His recreational interests included bridge, which he played with neighbors and KAPL co-workers, and bowling. He was a member of the Kermis Club league, Panhellenic league, and Scotia-Glenville Seniors league. Andrew is survived by his wife of 58 years, Alice (Van Dyke); and three sons, Alan and Robert of Glenville, and Richard (Julie Ruggerio) of Vestal, New York; two grand-daughters, Jennifer (Jeff) Robble and Jessica (Joseph) Fleury; and one great-granddaughter, Elle Sophia Robble. Visiting hours will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 17, at Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road in Glenville, followed by a memorial service. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Twin Rivers Council, Boy Scouts of America, 253 Washington Avenue Extension, Albany, NY 12205.
