Alberta Nutting Obituary

Feb 04, 1921 - Jan 14, 2017

This obituary is administered by:
Alberta NuttingAlberta (Green) Nutting, 96, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away on June 14, 2017, in Mercy Hospital. She, was born on February 4, 1921, the daughter of Norvell William Green and Marguerite (Gallagher) Green. She was reared in Pryor, Oklahoma where she graduated as co-valedictorian in her high school class and with honors from Draughon's Business College. She loved God with all of her heart and was a lifelong Methodist. Alberta, affectionately known as "Mimi", married Robert Nutting on December 7, 1941, just before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. They shared 62 wonderful years of marriage. As World War II was progressing, Bob entered the U.S. Army being assigned to the European Theater which necessitated Alberta to leave her profession as a legal stenographer and legal secretary. During the time Bob was serving his country in the European Theater and receiving the Croix de Guerra Avec Palm medal from the French government, Alberta gave birth to their first daughter Roberta (Bobbye). After returning from the War, Bob and Alberta moved to Denver with their daughter. Their next move in 1951 was to Muskogee, Oklahoma after having added to their family with their second daughter, Gayle. After Bob's promotion with the Department of the Interior, the family moved to Springfield, Missouri where they lived for the remainder of their lives. In Springfield, Alberta became very involved in her daughters' activities. She was a PTA officer at Pershing and Hickory Hills as well as a home room mother for many years. She was also a Camp Fire Girls leader for Gayle and a Girl Scout leader for Bobbye. Being an Aquarian, Mimi was always ahead of the time and enjoyed having parties that were above the norm. In 1954, she, along with her siblings, helped plan a birthday party for their father which was featured in LIFE magazine. She very much enjoyed ballroom dancing with Bob and, often, they would be the only couple dancing as others stopped to watch their poise and graceful movements. Mimi loved flowers and was a member and officer of the Rosa Pacis Garden Club which started Springfield's Living Memorial many years ago. She was also an avid reader and felt an obligation to help children with reading difficulties. There are many persons who, without her patience and individual instruction, would be unable to read today. God and her family were the most important things in her life. She took great pride in her family and dedicated her life to helping each member have the best life possible. She loved and lived with conviction and received love in return. She was a very loving and devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved her nieces and nephews as her own. She was the matriarch who guided her family, the moral arbiter who taught right from wrong, the faithful friend who was always there, and the counselor who listened. It was said that anyone who was experiencing a problem seemed to seek her out for her advice and compassion. Mimi was the example to follow, never waivering in the right thing to do. She helped many people not expecting, nor getting, anything in return. She was a very strong person and fought the good fight to the end. She is loved and will be missed by all who knew her. Mimi's life will be cherished as well as the love she gave. As she told us, "Remember the memories". And there are many. Mimi was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert L. Nutting and her beloved daughter, Pamela Gayle (Nutting) Miranti. She is survived by her daughter Roberta (Bobbye) Weaver and husband Bill; grandson, Gregory Weaver; granddaughter, Pamela (Miranti) Spain and husband Jake; great granddaughter, Kate Spain; grandson, Joseph Peter Miranti III and son-in-law, Joseph P. Miranti Jr.A graveside service will be held at 2 pm, Tuesday June 20, 2017 at Rivermonte Cemetery under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5 pm - 6:30 pm, Monday June 19, 2017 at King's Way United Methodist Church.
