GARTNER Winfield (Win) Allen Gartner passed away on the morning October 23, 2016. He was born on August 15,1935 in Fort Worth, Texas. In 1957, Win graduated from the University of Virginia with a degree in business having obtained his CPA designation prior to his graduation. He then attended The University of Virginia Law School graduating as a Juris Doctor in 1960. From there, he moved to Washington D.C. and worked as a litigator for the Internal Revenue Service under his former law professor Mortimer Kaplan. He transferred to the Atlanta Division in 1964 as the chief litigator for the IRS in the southeast region. In 1967, he moved to Jacksonville to work as a tax attorney in private practice for the law firm of Culverhouse, Tomlinson and Mills. In 1972, he moved into their commercial real estate division, MOED. Eventually becoming the in-house counsel for the Barnett Mortgage Trust and The Barnett-Winston Investment Trust. He went on to have a successful career as commercial real estate developer and commercial real estate attorney with his own law firm, Gartner and Phillips which later became the firm of Gartner, Brock and Simon. He was active in multiple charitable endeavors. He served as a board member for The Salvation Army and The Museum of Contemporary Art. He was also a contributor to the Tocqueville Society for the United Way. Win's greatest love was always his family and especially his loving wife Zelda (Scottie) Gartner. He is survived by his three children Sharon, Kevin and Bruce and his five grandchildren Austin, Hailey, Justin, Abigale, and Madeline. In lieu of flowers the family is asking that donations be made to either River Garden Hebrew Home or the Museum of Contemporary Art. Funeral services will be held mausoleum side at the Harden-Giddens Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32207 at 11:00 am on Thursday, October 27, 2016.
