Quaker Hill - Wilma (Hahn) Hasse, 90, of Quaker Hill, passed away on Nov. 26, 2016, after a short illness.Willie, the oldest daughter of William Russell Hahn and Ruth Haines Hahn was born on July 21, 1926, in West Haven.She is survived by Raymond W. Hasse, her husband of 66 years; her children, Lizbeth (Joe), Michael (Nadia), and Andrew; and by her grandson,Victor. Willie was predeceased by her younger sister, Phyllis Hahn Kuryla of Milford, Conn. and Englewood, Fla., and is survived by her two nieces, Phyllis' daughters, Laura Treat and Cynthia Conrad and their children.Willie attended West Haven High School. She graduated with a B.A. in English, University of Connecticut, Storrs in 1947, where she was a member of Phi Beta Phi. She received her MAT from Connecticut College, New London, in 1975, where she focused on drama and literature.Willie was a teacher of English and social studies at Old Saybrook High School, and coach of the girls' field hockey team, 1947-1952. She was a substitute teacher at Ledyard High School, Waterford High School and Cohanzie Elementary School from 1960 -1976. She was appointed as an associate professor of English at Mitchell College, New London, serving from 1976 - 2003 during which time she was foreign student advisor and international honor society advisor. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, Ray, to visit former foreign students around the world and frequently brought her students to live theatre at Long Wharf in New Haven and Eugene O'Neill Theatre in Waterford where she was an active member for many years.Willie attended the Waterford Congregational Church at Cross Roads. She sang for many years in the church choir when they were located at the 2nd Congregational Church in New London. She was an active member of the church's Women's Fellowship and a Deacon. She was an avid reader, contributing editor to several English prose collections, a keen traveler and a master in the kitchen of many New England dishes and preserves that she made from scratch.Wilma chose to give her body to science.
