A life well lived

Willard Gale, a vivacious and adventurous soul, has left this world behind, but her rich and full life will be forever cherished in the hearts of those who had the pleasure of knowing her. Willard was a remarkable woman who embraced life's every moment with enthusiasm, grace, and an unwavering spirit. She passed away peacefully on October 31, 2011 at the age of 85.

A true connoisseur of cards and camaraderie, Willard held the prestigious position of President at the Southeast Missouri Bridge Club for several years. Her keen intellect, quick wit, and passion for the game endeared her to her fellow members, making her an influential and beloved figure in the local bridge community.

One of the most colorful chapters in Willard's life was her annual showdown in the Joplin, Missouri chili cook-off. For an astonishing 22 consecutive years, she tantalized the taste buds of the chili connoisseurs in town with her secret recipe, earning herself the runner-up title each time. Willard's dedication to perfecting her chili was both a testament to her culinary expertise and her enduring rivalry with her arch-nemesis, Gary Pickus. The friendly competition between them became a local legend, as they playfully battled for the chili crown year after year.

In addition to her bridge-playing and chili-cooking pursuits, Willard was an avid gardener, an accomplished pianist, and a devoted pet lover. She had an infectious passion for travel and explored the world, creating cherished memories with friends and family. Willard's zest for life was nothing short of extraordinary.

Willard Gale is survived by her loving family, including her 5 children, 13, and a host of friends who admired her for her joie de vivre. She will be remembered for her sense of humor, her competitive spirit, and her dedication to the pursuit of joy and adventure. She is so proud of them.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Southeast Missouri Bridge Club in honor of Willard's memory.

Willard Gale's adventurous spirit, warm heart, and zest for life have left an indelible mark on all who knew her. She will be dearly missed but never forgotten. May she rest in peace, knowing that she lived her life to the fullest and inspired all those around her to do the same.
