Wayne WilliamsMadison, MSWayne Claude Williams, junior died at his home in Madison, Mississippi, on June 28, 2017, after a long illness. A graveside service will be held at two o'clock on Saturday July 1, 2017, at the Chapel of the Cross in Madison. Wayne was born on July 21, 1928, in Greenwood, Mississippi, to Edith Oliver Williams and Wayne Claude Williams, senior. He graduated from Greenwood High School and the University of Mississippi. At the University of Mississippi, he was a letterman of the golf team and a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. During the Korean War he served in the United State Air Force and Army. After his service he joined his father's business, Delta Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, Cadillac, Nissan. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, a member of and on the Vestry of the Church of Nativity, and a board director at The Bank of Greenwood now Regions. He was a member of the Mississippi Golf Association, Mississippi Senior Golf Association, and a former president of the Ole Miss Alumni Association of Greenwood Leflore County. He was a member of The Greenwood Country Club and served as president where he holds the record for winning the most club championships. Upon retirement, he and his wife moved to Annandale in Madison, Mississippi and became communicants of Chapel of the Cross. Wayne was predeceased by his parents and his first wife, Mabel Ann Ball Williams. He is survived by his wife Martha Hamilton Williams; by his three daughters Fran Ross (Tom) of Clarksdale, Mississippi; Elizabeth Laney (Bob) of Marietta, Georgia; Martha Gregg (Ricky) of Greenwood, Mississippi; and by his son Travis Williams (Jennifer) of Tyler, Texas. Wayne also leaves his brother James Williams, ten grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. The family expresses heartfelt appreciation to Jackie Bailey and Mary Nason for the loving care they provided during Wayne's illness. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Chapel of the Cross Building Fund and Community Animal Rescue Effort.
