THOMPSON, Wayne George 1947 – 2017It is with sadness and heartbreak that the family of Wayne Thompson announce his passing on August 11, 2017 in Calgary at the age of 70 years, after suffering a stroke while visiting family in Saskatoon. He passed away peacefully with family at his side. He is survived by his beloved partner of seven years, Christine; his daughter, Teri Babineau (Andrew); his son Dave (Kari); Christine's daughter Anita Fisher (Brett); and her son Mike Wagenblast (Colleen). Also surviving him are nine grandchildren, Hayden and Maryanne Babineau; Hunter, Conner and Weston Thompson; Sydney and Morgan Fisher; William and Isabel Wagenblast; as well as his sister Alice; brothers-in-law Ken Clawson (Dawn) and Howie Benderite; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Jess and Emilia Thompson, his wife Corrine, sister Joyce, and brother, Wes. Wayne was born on April 17, 1947 in Yorkton, SK, where he was raised, moving to Calgary in 1968. He married Corrine in 1970 and had daughter Teri in 1972 and son Dave in 1975. He worked in the radiator business all his life, owning Cartwright Radiators for 20 years with his brother Wes. He later worked for City Wide Radiator until his retirement in 2013. In his early life he lived on an acreage with horses, dogs, and other animals. He enjoyed many camping trips and trail rides with his family and friends. He loved to drive and took the family on many trips across the United States. After meeting Christine they both travelled extensively to B.C., Saskatchewan and Ontario with the highlight being a Panama Canal cruise. After retirement he became interested in gardening and was well known in the family for his cherry tomatoes. He was a wonderful handyman and could turn his talents to many projects. He was devoted to his family and enjoyed watching his grandchildren in all their sporting activities. Wayne was well liked by everyone he met and was a gentle, kind and loving man who will never be forgotten. A Celebration of Wayne's Life will be held at SOUTH CALGARY FUNERAL CENTRE, 12700 Macleod Trail South (at Lake Fraser Gate), on Sunday, August 20, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations being made in Wayne's memory directly to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, (100-119 14 Street NW, Calgary, AB T2N 1Z6).
