Wayne Frank Heusterberg Obituary

Dec 04, 1949 - Nov 05, 2017

This obituary is administered by:
Heusterberg, Wayne FrankWayne Frank Heusterberg, 67, of Howards Grove joined the Lord unexpectedly due to a heart attack on Saturday, November 4, 2017. As his favorite Bible verse comforts, Wayne "believe(d) that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him" (1 Thessalonians 4:14).The cherished husband of Leah, the beloved father of Amy and Bradley -- by birth -- as well as Lucas and Brianna -- by bond, and the adored grandpa to Cael and Evelyn, Wayne was born on December 3, 1949 to Frank and Amalia. He graduated from Howards Grove High School in 1969 before beingdrafted into the 7th/1st Air Cavalry Blackhawks of the United States Army during the Vietnam War.After his military service, Wayne worked in the construction trades and devoted himself to his family and his church. He enjoyed traveling throughout his children's youth -- camping in National parks, exploring historic monuments, and people-watching anywhere he could. Later, he venturedon his Harley on Tuesday nights as well as cross-country trips with his wife and riding crew. In 2013, Wayne retired from Kohler Hospitality after proudly working in building maintenance on various properties. Most recently, Wayne traveled by motorcycle to Washington, DC in the Rolling Thunder "Run to the Wall" to raise awareness for Vietnam POWs/MIAs. Last month, Wayne's family was blessed to have him with them to celebrate his 38th wedding anniversary as well as the marriage of his son, Bradley, and new daughter-in-law, Brianna. Wayne was known by all who loved him as "the fixer" -- sharing his handyman skills at a moment's notice with family and friends.Since his retirement, Wayne, affectionately "Dodo" and "Gampa," spent Mondays with his grandchildren, Cael and Evelyn, taking adventures to playgrounds, zoos, museums, and beyond in their hometown of Green Bay. His wood-working and metal-working projects will serve as treasured keepsakes of Wayne's love to and craftsmanship in the family.Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Amalia (Dortman) Heusterberg; his father-in-law, Albert Schulz; and an infant brother. He is survived by his wife, Leah (Schulz) Heusterberg; his daughter Amy (Lucas) Heusterberg-Richards; his son Bradley (Brianna) Heusterberg; his grandchildren, Cael and Evelyn Richards; his brother Allen (Sandy) Heusterberg; and many more family members and friends. Wayne's family offers sincerest thanks to the Howards Grove first responders, Orange Cross ambulance crew, St. Nicholas ER team, Chaplain Kelly, and Toni for their incredible assistance.Visitation for Wayne Heusterberg will take place at Grace Lutheran Church in Haven (W1264 County Road FF) from 1-4 pm on Wednesday, November 8, 2017. Service will follow the visitation at 4 pm, with a light reception afterward. A burial for family and close friends will occur Thursday morning at the Greenbush Cemetery. Please visit www.zimmerfuneralhome.com to sign the guestbook. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a memorial fund that will support charities Wayne valued.
