Wayne E. Schmitt of Cottage Grove died on December 11 at the age of 83. He was born on July 15, 1933 in Cottage Grove, OR to parents John E. and Anna Marie (Shelburne) Schmitt.He graduated from Cottage Grove High School in 1951, and served with the Army National Guard. He married Barbara Marsh on February 15, 1952.Wayne worked with Schmitt and Sons logging, and retired from Echo Spring Dairy in 1992, after working there for 30 years. He enjoyed hunting, camping, gardening, reading, and was very talented at repairing small engines. But the number 1 thing in his life was his family.He is survived by his daughter, Jan (Butch) Wicks of Corvallis, OR; son, Doug (Becky) Schmitt of Cottage Grove; sister, Norma Cable of Eugene; 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Wendell Schmitt.A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 17, at the Masonic Lodge in Cottage Grove.
