Walter William Stapleton1937 - 2014Walter William Stapleton, 76, of Waukegan, Ill., died on Aug. 29, 2014, at Advocate Condell Hospital, Libertyville, Ill.Walter was born on Nov. 8, 1937, in North Lake, Wis., and became a Waukegan resident in 1970. He was a Viet Nam War veteran. Walter retired from the United States Air Force as a Staff Sergeant and then worked at Great Lakes Naval Base as a computer operator. He was a member of the Winthrop Harbor VFW and the Moose Club.Survivors include his children, John (Michele) Stapleton of Kenosha, Wis., Joseph (Cathy) Stapleton of Waukegan, Ill., Denise (Jason) Hardt of Waukegan, Ill., and Courtney (Keith) Stapleton of Waukegan, Ill.; sisters, Geraldine Drews, Elvira Kopshinsky, Joann (Bob) Webb and Charlotte Spengler; 12 grandchildren, Annaliza, Cordelle, Anastiza, Keith, LaKierra, Jessica, Alexis, Jason Jr., Amanda, Caitlin, Justin and Camille; two great grandchildren, McKenzie and Vanessa; and many nieces and nephews.Walter was preceded in death by a son, Wayne Stapleton; daughter, Sara Sloan; five sisters and one brother; parents, Frances and Theresa Stapleton; and two brothers-in-law.Visitation will be held on Thursday, Sept. 4, 2014, from 5-8 p.m. at Condgon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, Ill., and again on Friday from 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Entombment with military honors will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park.
