She was born on January 28, 1928 in Des Moines, IA to Wayne & Louise Shover Johnston. She married George F. Wheeler in 1948 in Des Moines, IA. He preceded her in death on December 10, 1973. She then married John Wayne Barker on August 22, 1981 in Des Moines, IA. She retired from Northwestern Bell Telephone Company as a forecast engineer. She was very active in the Camdenton United Methodist Church in Camdenton, MO, was a member of the Brush & Pallet Club and Red Hats. She was a lifetime volunteer at Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach, MO.Virginia is survived by: her husband: John W. Barker of Fort Madison, IA; 1-daughter in law: Linda Wheeler of Fort Madison, IA; 4-sons: Jerry Wheeler of St. Joseph, MO, Randall (Kris) Wheeler of Omaha, NE, Charles Barker of Le Mars, IA & Thomas (Julie) Wheeler of Talladega, AL; 2-daughters: Janna (Randy) Bittle of St. Clair, MO & Amy (Kurt) Wallace of Indianapolis, IN; 17-grandchildren; 16-great grandchildren; 1-brother: Jerome (Pat) Johnston of Camdenton, MO; 2-nieces & 1-nephew and many friends. She was preceded in death by: her parents, first husband and 1-son: George Wheeler.Per her wishes, cremation has been entrusted to King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory in Fort Madison, IA. A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at Camdenton United Methodist Church in Camdenton, MO. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 24, 2017 at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines, IA. A memorial has been established for the Camdenton United Methodist Church or the .
