Virgil AraminiSeptember 11, 1931January 16, 2017Our beloved husband and father Virgil Aramini died peacefully at home with his family by his side on January 16, 2017. Virgil was born on September 11, 1931, in San Marco D'Urri, Genoa, Italy, to parents Luigi and Rosetta Aramini. His mother, his sister, and Virgil immigrated to America in 1939, joining their father in Reno, where he had settled 2 years earlier to make a new life for the family. His "Old World" Italian roots instilled in him the family values he believed in. Family and friends were first and foremost. They were his greatest assets.Virgil graduated from Reno High School and was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served for 2-1/2 years as a gunnery sergeant in the Korean Conflict before being honorably discharged.Virgil then became the first in his family to attend college (the University of Nevada Reno) and while there he met his future wife, Maria Anastassatos. Five days after their graduation from UNR they married, starting a wonderful journey of life together for 58 happy years. During those years they were fortunate to be able to travel with their family and friends to many places: Canada, Mexico, Europe, and all over the U.S.A., creating so many wonderful memories.Virgil was employed by Sierra Pacific Power Company for 46 years, working in several different departments, and finished his utility career as their first Ombudsman. In that role he helped countless customers with their problems. (Often even paying their bills, out of his own pocket.) He was a very generous person with his time and money.Virgil was a lifetime member of the Reno Elks Lodge where he served as secretary for 25 years. Through the Elks, he and Maria made countless lifelong friends. He was a lifetime member of International Ducks Unlimited, which included Canada, Mexico and the U.S.A. He was the national Vice President and helped run the local chapter for over 50 years. He was a lifetime member of the Kiwanis. He also served as president of the Prospectors Club 1998-1999. Virgil remained in good standing as a lifetime member of the UNR Alumni Association. He and his fellow volunteers ran the Junior Olympics in Reno for 20 yrs. He belonged to the Reno Rotary Club, Sons of Italy, and was one of the founders of the Greater Reno Italian Golf Association. He faithfully served for over 40 years on the Sierra Pacific Credit Union Board of Directors.Virgil is survived by his wife Maria, daughter Lisa, son John (Erliene), son Chris (Kim). He has 4 beloved grandchildren : Alexa, Haley, Amber, and Dominic, and they were the light of his life. He is also survived by his sister Melvina Sullivan, brother Bob (Karen), and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. A Rosary will be held on Thursday, January 26, 2017, at 6:00 p.m. at Reno Walton's Funeral Home on 2nd Street. A viewing will be held for one hour prior to the Rosary. The funeral will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, January 27, 2017 at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church. A Celebration of Life will be held at the El Dorado in the Novi following the funeral.
