Vernon V. Romenesko 80, Appleton passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, May 12, 2017. He was born on May 16, 1936 in Freedom to the late Walter and Mabel (Newhouse) Romenesko. Vernon proudly served in the U.S. Army. He graduated from St. Norbert College with a Bachelor's in Economics. He married Cleo Vande Wettering in 1957 and she passed away in 1978. He is survived by their four children. Kevin (Sandy) Romenesko, KY; Pam (Pat) Klingert, DePere; Keith (Susan) Romenesko, Appleton and Todd Romenesko, Appleton; 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.Vern owned an insurance agency from 1969 to 2008. He also was the Director of St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Appleton.He enjoyed Canadian fishing trips and playing cards with his brothers and family. He spent many hours watching the horse races and enjoyed attending the Breeder's Cup and Kentucky Derby parties with his family. He was a standout athlete and spent many years coaching basketball and Little League baseball. He will be especially missed for his contagious laugh and great sense of humor.He married Barbara Buller in 1988. She survives him as well as four brothers: Ken, Appleton; Merle (Rose) of Walworth; Gerry (Pat), Appleton and Clyde (Margaret), DePere; a sister-in-law Eunice Romenesko; Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jim Vande Wettering, Gary "Butch" (Patty) Vande Wettering, Dick (Donna) Vande Wettering, Sue Lowney, Dan (Jayne) Vande Wettering; 4 step children; Dennis (Kim) Schwartz, Richard Schwartz, David Schwartz and Darren (Melanie) Schwartz, 14 step grandchildren and 15 step great grandchildren. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews.Vern was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law John and Marie Vande Wettering, brothers: Ray, Orville and Bob, sister, Arlene Vosters, sisters-in-law: Laverne, Isabelle and Rose Romenesko and brothers-in-law: Donald Vande Wettering and Mike Lowney.Funeral services for Vern will be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at 7 pm at Brettschneider Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel. Friends may visit the family from 4PM to 7PM at the Funeral Chapel followed by Military Honors at 7PM. Interment will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Appleton.The family would like to thank the staff at Fox Valley Hematology Oncology and a special thank you to Katie from ThedaCare Hospice for her compassionate care shown to Vern and his family.
