It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Vernita Aikens-Driver, who was born on August 2, 1951, in Gary, Indiana, to Leotis Aikens Sr and Mary Aikens. She peacefully passed away on December 30, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Vernita is survived by her partner, Charles Carter Sr, her son Charles Carter Jr (Chan), as well as 4 stepdaughters, 1 stepson, and 1 grandchild. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, always putting her family's needs above her own.

Vernita attended Emerson High School and graduated in 1969. She had a passion for cooking, listening to music, playing board games, and reading her Bible. Her warm smile and kind heart will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Her legacy of love and compassion will live on in the hearts of those she touched. May she rest in peace.
