Valdine Frances Miller, 88, life-long resident of Kittitas County passed away peacefully on Wed. March 26, 2008. Valdine was born on Dec. 4, 1919 at Swauk in the family log cabin. She was the sixth of seven children of Joseph and Mary (Marchello) Betassa. Her elementary school days were spent at the Virden School located on the Betassa property in the Swauk. She graduated from Ellensburg high School in 1937. She continued her education at Central Washington College of Education. Valdine married Eddy C. Miller on Nov. 3, 1940 in Ellensburg. Her favorite past-times were picking huckleberries, needlework, crocheting, picnicking and spending time with her family. Over the years she enjoyed frequent visits with her family and friends on trips to casinos. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Her many jobs in Ellensburg included working for Nicholson's Drug, Kreidel's, CWU, I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Tot's Togs, Country Corral and Dr. Herbert, and at Patterson's Dress Shop in Yakima. Valdine is survived by her son LeRoy (Ruth) Miller and daughter Delores (Leonard) Anthony of Ellensburg, grandchildren Rochelle (Tony) Tarbert of Palmer, AK, Ed (Melanie) Miller of North Bend, Carrie (Tom) McDonald of Gold Bar, Cathy (Jim) Bray of Shoreline, and Mike (Sally) Anthony of Ellensburg, 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by brother-in-law LeRoy Jansen, sisters-in-law, Arloa Betassa, Annie Fisher and numerous nieces and nephews. Valdine was preceded in death by her husband, Eddy on June 29, 1970, both her parents, sisters Jenney Andreotti, Mary Munz, Lillian Jansen, brothers Bert and Ernie Betassa. There will not be a funeral at Valdine's request. A gathering of family and friends will be held May 10th from 1-3 at 3520 Dry Creek Road.
