V. Gene Zarayko, 77, passed away peacefully on Tues., Oct. 25, 2016 at home. Gene and wife, Carole (Danner) Zarayko, would have celebrated 56 years of marriage on Nov. 12th. He was born April 11, 1939 in Sharon, PA. He was the son of the late Walter and Margaret (Onuschak) Zarayko. Gene was the past owner of several small businesses, as well as District Manager for Drake Bakeries. He served in the US Army Reserves for 7 yrs. Gene was the Northampton Borough Manager for 30 yrs. He loved polka music and had his own band, the Parker Bros., for many yrs. Gene was a member at Assumption of the Virgin Mary Ukrainian Orthodox Church. He was proud to be one of the five generations in his family to be born on Apr. 11, which included his grandmother, mother, himself, son, Peter, and granddaughter, Beth. Survivors: wife, Carole; sons, Eugene and Peter; daughter, Cheryl Marx; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Nadine, wife of William Savitz and Karen, wife of Eugene Orlowski. Gene was predeceased by two children and a brother, Ronald. Services: Burial Service will be Monday, Oct. 31st at 10:00 a.m. in the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 1301 Newport Ave., Northampton. Family and friends may call Sunday 2 - 5:00 p.m. with a Parastas at 3:00 p.m. and Monday 8:00 - 9:30 a.m. in the Reichel Funeral Home, 326 E. 21st St., Northampton.
