TROY S. ELBERT, 37 FREEPORT - Troy S. Elbert, 37, of Freeport, died Friday March 29, 2013, at Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford. He was born on Oct. 19, 1975, in Freeport, IL, the son of Joan Wescott. Troy was the owner of a food business. He enjoyed cooking and smoking meats. Troy was a big fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears. Troy is survived by his son, Benjamin Elbert V; his son's mother, Stephanie Pruitt of Lena, IL; his mother, Joan (Benjamin IIII) Elbert of Shannon, IL; one brother, Nate (Heather) Elbert of Machesney Park, IL; one sister, Sarah Elbert of North Aurora, IL; aunts and uncles; and his cat, Chicken Legs. He was preceded in death by his grandparents. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport; with Rev. Kelvin McGee officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Burke-Tubbs. Burial will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in his memory.
