TOM POWERS Obituary

Jul 09, 1932 - Nov 27, 2016

This obituary is administered by:
TOM POWERS Tom Powers, 84, passed away quietly at Hospice House in Kennewick on Sunday November 27th, 2016. He was born on July 9th, 1932 in Dubuque, Iowa where he lived until he graduated high school in 1950. He then joined the Army where he served his country in the Korean War. Tom studied theater arts at the Pasadena Playhouse. He married Arline Clifford in November 1958 and moved to Washington to assume his role of husband and father to her two children. They lived in Moses Lake for several years where Tom worked for the Washington State Potato Association. Upon settling in the Tri-Cities in the early 1960's he worked as a disc jockey for KORD radio. Later he worked for Seattle First National Bank in their Pasco branch. Tom spent nearly 40 years as a real estate agent and owned several agencies during that time. He spent many years doing fundraising for non-profit organizations and was very active in the Tri-City Regional Chamber of Commerce. Here he co-founded the Ambassador Club which is an active group of volunteers who help celebrate new businesses to the community. Tom loved all aspects of theater. He was an actor, producer, director and all-around promoter of the arts. In 2011, the Richland Players awarded him a 50 year recognition for his contributions to the organization. Tom remarried in 1988 where again he assumed his role as husband and father to three daughters. He and his wife Lois worked side by side for nearly 25 years. His most satisfying real estate experience was when he found and facilitated the property acquisition for South Hills Church. He was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2013 forcing him to give up acting. His final years have been difficult but he has handled it like the true gentleman he was. We will all miss his wonderful sense of humor. He is survived by his wife Lois, sister Elizabeth Powers, son Jerry (Leeann), daughter Debbie Hughes (Doug), daughter Crystal Franchimon (Larry), daughter Shawna Slade (Roscoe), and daughter LeAnna Jimerson (Tim). Also surviving him are 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Many thanks to all our friends and family for your support and love through this journey. We are so grateful to the Veteran's Administration for their assistance in allowing him to remain at home. Special thanks to his caregivers, especially our sweet Marisabel and the entire hospice staff. A celebration of life will be held at South Hills Church in Kennewick on Friday December 2nd at 1:30 p.m. followed by a dessert reception.
