Susan "Spice" Joseph Brumfield, the vibrant heartbeat of her family and the true essence of New Orleans spirit, passed away on November 11, 2025, in her hometown of New Orleans, Louisiana. She was 57 years old.

Born on April 21, 1968, in New Orleans, Spice came into the world with a soul too bright to dim. From her earliest days, she embodied the rhythm and richness of the city she loved. Living boldly, loving deeply, and infusing every moment with warmth and strength. Like the creole seasoning she was lovingly compared to, Spice added comfort and soul to every life she touched.

A devoted and powerful mother, Susan's greatest pride was her five children: Lorne Joseph, Anthony Joseph, April Joseph, Kevonta Joseph, and Byreion Thomas. To them, she was more than a parent-she was a guidepost of resilience and love. She reminded them often that they were her "Upgraded DNA" chosen and unstoppable. Her belief in their potential was fierce and unwavering.

Spice is preceded in death by her beloved siblings Peter Joseph and Lynell Joseph. Their memories remain cherished within the hearts of those who knew them.

She leaves behind a loving family who will carry her memory forward with honor and devotion: her mother Susan Sykes; brothers Lorne Joseph and Richard Byrd Jr., and sisters Denise Byrd, Deborah Byrd, Tangela Byrd, and Danielle Byrd.

A Celebration of Life honoring Spice will be held at the Blue Crawfish Hotel and Bar in New Orleans. Burial will take place at 11:00 AM followed by the Celebration of Life at 12:00 PM (Noon), where family and friends will gather to remember the woman who seasoned their lives with love.

Though we release her physically from this world, Spice's spirit remains rich, warm, unforgettable.

She lives on in every laugh that echoes through generations, every memory shared around a table filled with love, and every bit of strength she poured into those she held dear.
