SHERRILL >> Sudarsanan Thirumulpad, affectionately known as "Sidney T," 71, of 110 Wayland St., died Wednesday evening Feb. 1, 2017 in the comfort of his own home surrounded by his loving family.Sidney was born on April 2, 1945 in Moovattupuzha, Kerala, India a son of Konnasseri Parameswaran Namboodiri and A. Ammini. Prior to moving to the United States, he attended school in India and obtained his undergraduate degree from A. C. College in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. Sidney moved to the US in 1969, to pursue his master's degree in chemical engineering from Clarkson University.Following graduation in 1971 he worked briefly in Asheville, N.C. before moving to Sherrill to work for Oneida Ltd. Silversmiths. A few years later, on Jan. 8, 1974, he married Rema Varma in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. They returned to Sherrill where Sidney retired from Oneida Ltd. in 2005. He then went to work for Sherrill Manufacturing and retired in 2011.A very active member of the community Sidney was chairman of the Sherrill-Kenwood Water Board. He was an avid tennis player and could often be seen on the local courts playing the game he loved or teaching his daughters and other youth in the area. He never lost his cultural roots and had a tremendous passion for Indian cultural dances, music, and writing poetry. He attended the Sri Rajaganapathi Temple in Swedesboro, N.J. Surviving are his loving wife, Rema; two daughters, Rashmi (Bradley) Bismark of Buffalo and Shalini (Amit) Mahtani of Tarrytown, and two granddaughters, Ananya and Priyanka Bismark. He also has three brothers and three sisters, all living in Kerala, India, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.A Memorial Celebration of the Life of the beloved "Sidney T" will take place on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the Oneida Community Mansion House, 170 Kenwood Ave., Oneida. Memorial contributions may be made to the City of Sherrill, Trust in Agency in Memory of Sidney for Tennis, c/o City Hall, 377 Sherrill Road, Sherrill, N.Y. 13461.
