Smocke, Sophia C. "Soph" (Nee Stavropoulos ) Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at the age of 93, and was reunited with her beloved husband Gene. Resident of the Town of Delafield and formerly of Milwaukee. Soph was born on May 25, 1922 in Beaver Dam, WI and is the daughter of Greek immigrants Christ and Frances Stavropoulos. Soph graduated from Beaver Dam High School and completed several courses at Wayland Academy, Beaver Dam, WI. She is the cherished mother of Christopher (Joana) Smocke, Deborah Smocke and Meredith (Craig) Peterson and proud Yia Yia of Andrew and Hunter Peterson who will miss her dearly. Soph was preceded in death by her father, Christ in 1936, her mother, Frances in 1976, and the love of her life, husband, Gene in 2007; as well as her brothers, John (89) in 2007, George (91) in 2008 and Harry (92) in 2012. Further survived by sister-in-law, Phyllis (Ken) DonLevy, sister-in-law, Myrl (the late Robert) Smocke, as well as many dear nieces and nephews, other relatives and cherished lifelong friends. An avid sports fan, Soph had season tickets to the Packers, Milwaukee Braves, Brewers and Bucks throughout her lifetime. Joined on numerous occasions by her children and in recent years her niece, Fran Stavropoulos, countless memories were created that will forever be cherished in their hearts. A lifelong crossword puzzle enthusiast, Soph's command of the English language was a direct result of this pastime. Her extensive vocabulary filtered down to her children throughout her life and they are extremely grateful for that influence. Soph's love for arts and crafts decorated the homes of her family and friends throughout the years. Her travels across the world with her beloved Gene provided not only wonderful stories, but collectibles that will be cherished keepsakes. One of Soph's proudest moments was becoming Yia Yia, a beloved Grandma to her precious grandsons Andrew and Hunter. The smiles the two grandsons brought to her face will forever be etched in our memory. Soph loved to hold court wherever she went and shared with family and friends alike, the wisdom she gained throughout her 93 years on this earth. Sophia in Greek means wisdom. Visitation will be held at the Funeral Home on Sunday, December 6, from 4 PM until Vigil Service at 7 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Monday, December 7 at St. Charles Catholic Church, 313 Circle Drive, Hartland, WI. PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH. Interment to follow at St. Charles Cemetery. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Waukesha Memorial Hospital, Franciscan Woods Rehabilitation and Franciscan Woods Hospice for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, memorials made in Soph's name to Special Olympics or the Wounded Warrior Project would be greatly appreciated. Our sadness is profound as we say goodbye to our most beloved and cherished Mom and Yia Yia. She was a beautiful soul and taught us well by living an exemplary life of strength and courage, making her a role model for all who knew her. Mom and Dad are together again...and until we can be reunited with you both in heavenly eternity, we will hold you close in our hearts.
You can to the family or in memory of Sophia Smocke.
