Sigrid M Pernela 1917-2017 At the age of 99 Sigrid Pernela WA died Friday, January 20, 2017 at the Assurance Adult Family Home in Bothell. She was a longtime resident of Olympia, She was born on August 23, 1917 to Ole and Margit Strom at Kyle, Saskatchewan, Canada; both parents had immigrated from Norway to homestead. She had six siblings: Arnold, Alfred, Oscar, Agnes, Erling, and Magnus. In 1939, she moved to Vancouver WA, where in May 1940 she married Olaf Pernela, a carpenter/millwright. They lived in Kelso and had two children Lloyd (1942) and Agnes (1945-2014). She was naturalized in July 1943. After Olaf's naval discharge in 1946, they moved to a farm south of Tenino. In 1948 they moved to Olympia and lived on Legion Way. In 1972, they relocated to a Johnson Point beach home. Olaf died in December 1983. They were married forty-three years. Sigrid relocated in 1988 to Vista Village Condominiums in Lacey where she enjoyed the retirement activities. She was active in Gloria Dei Lutheran Church for 58 years. At the annual Lutefisk dinners, she wore her Norwegian Hardanger District costume. She was member of Friendship Quilters, circles, Hope Ship and served community needs. She was sought after to make custom quilts. She was an excellent cook focusing upon her rich knowledge and love of Norwegian cooking. In 2006, she moved to Kirkland to live with her son, Lloyd, and Karen, his wife. In Fall of 2007 she became a resident of Sunshine Adult Family Home in Kirkland, WA and later Assurance. She was preceded in death by Ole and Margit; Olaf (1914-1983); her daughter, Agnes (1945-2014); and her six siblings. She is survived by Lloyd and Karen; six grand-children: Nissa, Ryan, Aaron, Kaia, Sonja and Ethan, and ten great grandchildren: Emily, Colby, Jules, Emma, Sophie, Arianna, Ariel, Sophie, Ayva, Raven and Zoe.
