Shirley RagsdaleShirley Ione Foust Ragsdale, 93, a resident of West Lafayette, Indiana died on Saturday Oct. 19, 2013.She was born on January 30, 1920, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Charles Foust, in Plainville, IN. She married Edward Austin Ragsdale of Washington, IN, on December 24, 1941. He preceded her in death on February 14, 1998.A graduate of the Indiana University School of Nursing, she was a nurse at Riley Hospital in the 1940s and served for years as the nurse for the Indiana State Fair 4-H Boy's Camp. In the late 1960's, she worked in a research position for the Purdue University Entomology Labs.A career wife, mother, and grandmother, she also lived in Evansville, Indiana from 1950- 1954; Brownstown, IN, from 1954-1958, and Bedford, IN, 1958-60. She is survived by a son, Edward A. Ragsdale III of West Lafayette, IN; a daughter, Susan Ragsdale Barkley of Dallas, TX, and two grandsons—John Austin Barkley, Calistoga, CA and Justin Edward Barkley, Boston, MA.A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at Central Presbyterian Church, 31 N. 7th Street, Lafayette, IN. She will be buried in Bethel Cemetery in Washington, Indiana. Memorial donations may be made to benefit educational programs at the Celery Bog.
